Thundercats are GO!! 28.04.2010

Its been a busy week for the Thundercats. As you all know  last week we had some voclanic ash and it stranded a few people, well we had a couple of stranded Honeymooners and some Airline Staff  come to Ardmore to  Fly ‘Air Thundercat’!! We don’t have to worry about some ash in the clouds, all we need is a few little waves and a 50hp Thundercat and we are always cleared for take off. All passengers disembarked safetly with large smiles and arrived at there chosen destination.

This weekend saw the Round 1 of  the Irish National P750/ Thundercat championships. It was a 60 nm race (over 120km) long haul race around Brandon Bay in very messy choppy  (ploughed field springs to mind) conditions. 6 Boats lined up for the race, and I’m proud to say I was 1st off the beach by along shot. On the 1st lap my engine decided it was not in the mood for a race! After losing the lead and limping back to the start, a  quick change of boat and we were back out again. We (Ronan & Mike) were lapping 3min faster than the rest of the field. On the 5th lap after coming from way back in last position to  reach 2nd, our engine decided it want a rest.

To cut along story short after alot of cursing and engine striping (while afloat), we got back in the race and finished 3rd.

Thanks to Mike for crewing for me, it was his 1st ever time in a Thundercat and he did fantastic in the challenging conditions. I’ve attached the link for the photos Peter took on the day.Click Here to view  photos. We were in the white/orange boat and then the white boat.

Radio Stations, Glow sticks & Channel Swimmers 13.04.2010

Its been a busy week here at Ardmore Adventures, with lots of visitors from all walks of life. We’ve had Channel Swimmers, Honeymooners and Radio stations to name just a few.

James from England came out kayaking with his 2 sons Finn and Harry early last week. James is training to swim the English channel this summer which he successfully achieved last summer and raised £50k for charity in the process, Ronan joined James for one of training swims. Ronan acted as safety cover for James as he swam around the bay. We wish James the best of luck in his Channel swim this summer.

RTE’s Lyric Fm joined us for a sea kayak to record the sounds of the sea and to record Ronan giving a Sea Kayak Tour for a new radio show called Soundscapes of Ireland. As soon as we are given the date for the show we will post it on line.

With the longer stretch in the evenings and the good weather upon us, we have started our eveing sessions again.
On Saturday night Tim, Seamus, Jen and Jane joined us for our 1st night kayak of the year. We were greeted to a beautiful red sky and sunset to mark the start of our journey and enjoyed the crystal clear sky and with all the stars on show for the duration of our trip. We couldn’t have got a better night.

Today we were joined by Beat Fm, who joined us for some Rock Climbing and Abseiling. Ardmore Adventures were asked to help promote Failte Ireland’s ‘The Fun Starts Here’ campaign. Niall, Vinny, Mary and Jen from the Beat Breakfast gave it their all in the name of adventure and show biz. All survived to broadcast the tale with smiles on their faces. Check Ronan out on the Beat Breakfast tomorrow morning (wednesday 14th April) @ 9.30am.
